The shape guide

Nine silhouettes make up the essentials of hat-making. Brim, crown, spirit: learn to recognise them and find the one that suits you.

Fedora

A crown pinched at the front, a marked crease and a soft brim: the Fedora is the reference silhouette of the felt hat, the one that crosses the decades without dating.

Brim: Medium brim, around 5 to 7 cm
Style: Classic elegance, from the winter coat to the mid-season trench
Occasions: Town, office, evenings, every day in autumn and winter
Who it suits: Almost every face: the medium brim balances the features, the structured crown lengthens slightly.

Trilby

Shorter of brim than the Fedora and upturned at the back, the Trilby has a lively, almost impish spirit. It is happily worn towards the back of the head.

Traveller

Boater

Capeline

The great feminine brim, soft or structured, that shields from the sun as much as it sets an allure. The capeline dresses an entire silhouette.

Cloche

Born in the 1920s, the Cloche wraps the head and comes down over the forehead. A soft, intimate, very Parisian shape.

Bucket hat
